Rhodes Has So Much To Offer

Blessed with many wonderful beaches the island of Rhodes in the Eastern Mediterranean also offers a taste of ancient culture and its city is a World Heritage Site.

Once the Colossus of Rhodes a bronze statue of the god Apollo stood 100 feet high at the entrance to the islands harbour. Erected in 280 BC it was one of the Seven Wonders of the World but was destroyed by an earthquake only 54 years later. Now the medieval Old Town of the City of Rhodes is a World Heritage Site and Rhodes is a tourist destination.

People now travel for holidays to Rhodes for the sun beaches and nightlife. Resorts include Ixia Pefkos and Lindos. Rhodes has been blessed with many long stretches of beach including those at Faliraki Ixia and Lindos.

An island of Greece located in the Eastern Mediterranean and shaped like a spearhead the island of Rhodes is just under 50 miles long and 24 miles wide at its furthest reaches with a coastline of 137 miles.

The city is at the northern tip of the island and Diagoras International Airport is 9 miles to the southwest.

Interesting places to visit include:
Filerimos situated near the village of Trianta on the ancient site of Ialysos.
Marine Aquarium located underneath the Hydro Biological Station it offers close up views of marine life of the Mediterranean.
Rodini Park one of the first landscaped parks in the world the Romans enjoyed the park when they arrived years after it had been built.

Other reasons for going on holidays to Rhodes would be for an excursion to Seven Springs. One of the most charming destinations on the island it offers a cool magical landscape a true oasis even in the heat of high summer. Excellent for adult and kids alike visitors can enjoy an ice cream while watching the ducks and peacocks found in this amazing area.

Being an island there are also a host of water sports available. Take your pick from windsurfing scuba diving water ski jet skiing.
